Well, kind of.
Karl Lagerfeld has signed a deal to design a luxury hotel in Macau, China. According to the Chanel diva, the extravagant 20-story hotel will be something like 19th century meets present.
The rooms will be of the highest standard, all to the liking of Karl himself. “You know, Gabrielle Chanel always said, ‘I only make dresses I would wear.’ And I make only rooms where I would like to sleep. It’s as simple as that”, he told WWD. We didn’t dare think otherwise, your majesty.
If you’re wondering why the busy designer is wasting his time on some hotel in China, Karl explains: “[I will approach the project] like my own houses and apartments, but I have more houses than I need, and I don’t want to do any more. So I can – how could I say? – get rid of my frustration by doing hotels.” Yes, you read it correctly, you and I have a sip of wine to calm down, Karl does hotels.
The hotel will open in 2017. I would love to rest my head there.
